Services and Fees
Services Available within the Alabama Diagnostic Laboratory System
Auburn Laboratory
The Auburn laboratory serves as the central laboratory in the Alabama Diagnostic Laboratory system, and provides the following services.
- Necropsy: Livestock, poultry, and all other species
- Histopathology
- Bacteriology and Mycology
- Virology and Molecular Detection (PCR)
- Serology: Livestock, poultry (including ELISA), Coggin’s tests, and other equine and companion animal serology
- Toxicology
- Honey Bee (Apiary) diagnostics
Branch Laboratories
The three branch laboratories in Boaz, Hanceville, and Elba provide the following services.
- Necropsy: Poultry, livestock, and other species
- Bacteriology and Mycology
- Serology: Poultry only (National Poultry Improvement Plan testing – MG, MS, AI)
On a daily basis, the branch laboratories receive and collect samples, and forward them to the Auburn laboratory for Histopathology, Virology and Molecular Detection, Toxicology, and other Serology. The results are reported back to the branch laboratories to complete the case investigation.
All of the laboratories accept specimens for Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) and chronic wasting disease of deer (CWD). Samples are collected and forwarded to the appropriate laboratory for certified testing.
